Mississippi River flooding at Thebes, IL

On the way home from St Louis on Sunday afternoon, we crossed the
Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau, Missouri, into Illinois for the trip
back to Nashville. We stopped at the "scenic overlook" at Thebes, Illinois,
to see the river because of the flooding. The flood has met or exceeded the
flood from 1993, and you can see in the pictures that the mighty Mississippi
reminds us that we can only do so much to keep the water inside the levees.

For miles after crossing into Illinois, the water is right up to the road -
it's kindof creepy.
